Assessments
Independent Critical Assessments
The purpose of an Independent Critical Assessment (ICA) is to provide an objective statement supported by robust evidence to inform decision-makers (and other interested parties) about the likely impact of a particular policy or initiative on Shropshire’s aim of reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2030 and the county’s capacity to do so.
SCAP ICA : Proposal for Shrewsbury North West Relief Road
The proposed new road would connect the A5 at Welshpool Road roundabout to the Ellesmere Road roundabout. It is estimated that the construction phase would emit about 70,000 tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) and that it would take until at least 2070 to offset these emissions.
The position of Zero Carbon Shropshire is that construction of the Shrewsbury North West Relief Road will impede Shropshire’s aim of reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2030.
